E-Varamu – A Digital
Treasure Trove

Estonian digital heritage online.

Project

The E-Varamu portal allows anyone to access digital, cultural resources through a single internet portal.

Available data includes scientific literature, Estonian printed documents, Estonia-centered cultural history and national poetry collections, early printed books, and museum and archive holdings. The core functional feature is semantic interoperability and a cross-referencing ability for new and existing databases. The main goal when creating the Data Hub was to ensure the quality of the information and data. The platform is intended to provide a bridge between authoritative science-based information and user-supplied content. In the future, millions of books, journals, manuscripts, electronic journals, and electronic books will be made available to the public. This will provide global access to Estonian cultural heritage. Convit supports the Elnet Consortium with software operation and further development. Take me to the E-Varamu portal

Product Details

The E-Varamu portal’s main challenge is to aggregate and prepare data from a variety of data providers and to make the data available in a uniform and consistent way in the E-Varamu portal and any other applications used by creatives. To this end, a data hub was set up which enables metadata harmonisation and data mapping to an overarching graph-based data model.

Content is made available centrally via a cross-media search engine with semantic features. This technical solution is specifically designed for harvesting data from a large number of sources and offers clear management mechanisms. The E-Varamu portal has specific authentication and authorization procedures that enable the reuse of existing user data.
